Abhishek Sharma became the fastest batter to reach 2,000 T20I runs during India's 14-run victory over West Indies in the third T20I at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday. The left-hander broke Suryakumar Yadav's previous record of 1,164 deliveries by 140 balls during a 69 off 30 balls knock that featured six fours and five sixes.

Abhishek reached his fifty in 18 balls and helped India post 87 for one in the powerplay before he was caught and bowled by Shamar Springer. West Indies fought back with five wickets in the next 10 overs to restrict India to 223. Arshdeep Singh took three for 44 and Naman Dhir claimed two wickets as India defended 223 to win by 14 runs and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

West Indies finished on 209 for seven despite a late unbeaten 35 off 11 from Springer. The result gives India a 2-1 lead in the five-match series with two matches remaining.

CricHubb Take

Abhishek Sharma's record comes as Suryakumar Yadav sits out of the India T20I side after being dropped following the 2026 World Cup. The timing suggests India's white-ball depth is shifting away from established middle-order batters toward powerplay specialists who can deliver explosive starts.
