The SA20 2027 player auction will take place on October 7 in Johannesburg. Four of the six franchises will bid for players after Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals completed their squads following a salary cap increase to R42 million.

Joburg Super Kings hold the largest remaining purse at R20.6 million for six slots, followed by MI Cape Town with R9.35 million and five slots. Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals have R3.6 million and R1.475 million respectively for their remaining positions.

A total of 156 players from 789 registered candidates will be available, including Trent Boult, Moeen Ali, and Kieron Pollard. Each franchise must finish with a 19-player squad containing a maximum of seven overseas players and a minimum of two South African Under-23 players. The auction will be streamed live on JioHotstar in India.

The reduced size of this auction concentrates power in recruitment decisions that could determine whether Sunrisers Eastern Cape face a genuine challenge to their three-year dominance.
