The Board of Control for Cricket in India will hold a management review in Mumbai on September 3 to assess Rohit Sharma's role ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The 39-year-old has stated his desire to feature in the tournament in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Selectors and board officials are reported to be divided on whether the former captain should be retained. The same meeting will examine injury management protocols and player availability for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman are expected to attend. Former South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes has said Rohit's experience would remain an asset for the two-time champions.

CricHubb Take

The September 3 meeting is less about one player's contract and more about whether Indian cricket will keep a two-year bridge between its Test and limited-overs leadership groups or force an immediate split.
