Shai Hope is two runs short of Chris Gayle's West Indies T20I run record and needs one more century and 11 boundaries to complete a hat-trick of milestones.
Shai Hope needs three more runs to surpass Chris Gayle's tally of 1,899 T20I runs for West Indies. The captain has 1,897 runs in the format and will have the chance to break the record when West Indies play the third T20I against India in Indore on Sunday. Hope also needs one more century to become the first West Indies player with three T20I hundreds and 11 more boundaries to overtake Gayle's 158 fours.
Hope scored an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls in the second T20I in Ranchi, his second century of the white-ball series. West Indies chased down India's 249 for a six-wicket win, their highest successful T20I chase. The result levelled the five-match series at 1-1.
Shreyas Iyer's winning streak as India captain ended after ten consecutive victories. The visitors will look to take a 2-1 lead when the series resumes in Indore.
