Spencer Johnson returns to limited-overs duty after stress fracture

Johnson featured in three ODIs inside six days after a Second XI appearance for South Australia.

CricHubb5 Nov 2026

Spencer Johnson played three ODIs for Australia against England in six days after recovering from a lumbar stress fracture. The 30-year-old had not featured in a first-class match since November 2024 and had missed the entire 2025-26 Sheffield Shield season. Last week he bowled 29 overs for South Australia Second XI against Victoria Second XI in Mildura, his heaviest workload since that earlier Shield appearance. He has played only six first-class matches in his career and said the three ODIs in five or six days would be the best preparation he could get for a red-ball return.

CricHubb Take

The compressed white-ball schedule is now the only realistic route for Johnson to rebuild match fitness before any Sheffield Shield comeback.
