Jasprit Bumrah has been named in India's squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka but must pass a fitness assessment first. He suffered a knee injury during the ODI series in England and has been resting until July 30. Bumrah will then report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for evaluation.

Shubman Gill is also managing a chronic neck problem and has consulted specialists outside the BCCI. Both players are expected to increase their workloads gradually ahead of the August series. Selectors have included them subject to medical clearance.

India aim to strengthen their position in the World Test Championship with results in Sri Lanka.

Selectors may need contingency plans if both Bumrah and Gill fail their assessments, potentially reshaping India's pace attack and batting order for Galle.
