Joe Root will captain England in Tests after Stephen Fleming's confirmation as the new men's Test coach. The ECB made both announcements together, with Root returning to the role he previously held until 2022. Fleming will begin his tenure with the South Africa series in December.
Marcus Trescothick serves as interim coach for the Pakistan Tests before Fleming takes charge. Root led England in 64 Tests during his first captaincy spell, securing 27 victories. The 35-year-old will combine his batting duties with the captaincy once again.
England's schedule includes a three-Test series against Pakistan followed by the tour of South Africa.
