India joins seven-nation race to host 2036 Olympics
India was named among seven bidders for the 2036 Summer Olympics, with Ahmedabad as the proposed host city.
India was formally named as one of seven bidders for the 2036 Summer Olympics when the International Olympic Committee announced the list on Tuesday. The country's bid is centred on Ahmedabad, which is already scheduled to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
The IOC will approve a shortlist in March and aims to decide the host by a contested vote of its members in 2029. Other confirmed bidders include South Korea, Qatar, Germany, South Africa and Turkey.
India has long expressed interest in hosting the Games, and the formal application begins a two-and-a-half-year evaluation process.
