Harmanpreet Kaur rejected BCCI offer to retain captaincy in one format
Harmanpreet declined partial retention and chose complete exit after Guwahati review.
Harmanpreet Kaur turned down the BCCI's offer to stay on as captain in one format, likely ODIs, before resigning from all three on Tuesday. She made the call hours after a review meeting in Guwahati with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and head coach Amol Muzumdar.
The board now plans to build around Mandhana for the 2028 T20 World Cup and the Los Angeles Olympics. Harmanpreet led India in five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is, winning the 2025 ODI World Cup and two Asian Games golds.
Mandhana steps into the full-time role for the Zimbabwe series starting October 16 in Raipur.

By rejecting a halfway house, Harmanpreet forces the BCCI to decide now whether Mandhana gets the captaincy in all three formats or if a split leadership is still on the table.
