Yuzvendra Chahal announced his retirement from first-class cricket on Friday. The 36-year-old leg-spinner said he played his final red-ball match for Northamptonshire at Lord's and will now focus on returning to India's white-ball teams.

Chahal played 49 first-class matches across 17 years, taking 148 wickets. He never earned a Test cap despite playing 72 ODIs and 80 T20Is for India. His last international appearance came in August 2023 against the West Indies.

Chahal thanked the Haryana Cricket Association for support throughout his career. He said the hunger to represent India remains and he will give everything to earn another opportunity in ODIs and T20Is.

Chahal's move shows how white-ball specialists are increasingly prioritising limited-overs cricket over the longer format.
