Hampshire and Scotland seamer Brad Wheal has retired from professional cricket at the age of 30 after a succession of injuries. Wheal took 51 wickets in 44 appearances across a decade-long international career and featured at four T20 World Cups, most recently in India earlier this year.

He also played for Hampshire from 2015, helping them win the One Day Cup in 2018 and the T20 Blast in 2022. "I've loved my time at Hampshire and representing Scotland as a professional cricketer, but unfortunately recurring injuries have forced my hand and I've made the decision to retire from playing cricket," Wheal said.

Wheal had four stress fractures in his back and recently underwent knee surgery. He expressed gratitude to teammates, coaches and Scotland supporters, particularly those who travelled around the world to watch the team play. He said he will follow the Scotland team from afar.

Wheal's retirement highlights the physical toll of fast bowling on associate nation players who often lack the same medical and recovery resources available to full-member teams. His four World Cup appearances remain a benchmark for what associate cricket can achieve despite limited infrastructure.
