Gill urges India to end ODI experiments ahead of 2027 World Cup
Gill called for urgency in finalising India's ODI bowling attack after the West Indies series.
India captain Shubman Gill said the team has little time to experiment before the 2027 ODI World Cup and wants the first-choice bowling combination in place from the next series. Gill spoke after India's 2-1 series win over West Indies in New Chandigarh on Saturday, where the hosts posted 351 for seven but lost by five wickets.
Gill said power-play and death bowling have hurt India and that he wants to test the combination that will play in South Africa. He named Anshul Kamboj and Auqib Nabi as candidates for the number eight all-rounder role after injuries to Harshit Rana left the position open. The next assignment is a five-ODI series in New Zealand that begins on November 4.
India will be without Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for parts of that tour because of the subsequent Test series. Gill said the selectors need to settle the pace attack quickly because only Bumrah is a confirmed starter.

Gill's comments show that India will likely trim the New Zealand ODI series to three matches so the Test specialists can be rested early.
