BCCI invites applications for Ajit Agarkar's replacement on selection panel

BCCI begins search for Ajit Agarkar's successor on the men's selection committee with applications due by October 14.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited applications for one vacancy on the men's senior selection committee following the expiry of Ajit Agarkar's contract. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on October 14.

The new selector will join a four-member panel that is currently functioning without Agarkar, with Pragyan Ojha chairing the committee in the interim. The appointment will assume significance as the panel prepares to select India's squad for the tour of New Zealand.

Applicants must have played at least seven Tests, or 30 First Class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 First Class matches. Candidates must have retired at least five years ago, and anyone who has served on a BCCI Cricket Committee for a cumulative five years will be ineligible. The new member will be responsible for selecting the senior men's team across formats and identifying talent.

The timing of Agarkar's departure, coming days after the Ranji Trophy season began, suggests the BCCI wanted the new selector in place before key domestic performers establish claims for national selection. The eligibility criteria will determine whether the panel retains its balance of Test experience and recent domestic insight.
