Manhas says fitness and form, not age, should decide Kohli and Rohit selection

Manhas stated selection for the 2027 ODI World Cup should hinge on fitness and current form rather than age for senior players.

BCCI president Mithun Manhas said fitness and performances, not age, should determine whether Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma feature in India's 2027 ODI World Cup squad. He told Sportstar the final call rests with selectors and coaches.

Manhas noted both players remain fit and continue to win matches. He added their experience would support Shubman Gill's first major assignment as captain, alongside Jasprit Bumrah's potential role leading the bowling attack.

The 2027 tournament will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Kohli and Rohit will both be past 38 by then.

Manhas has put the onus on the selectors to judge Kohli and Rohit purely on what they produce in the next two years, not on when their birthdays fall.
