Ajit Agarkar to step down as chairman of selectors after Rohit Sharma dispute

Ajit Agarkar is set to end his tenure as chairman of selectors after a series of disagreements with the BCCI over selection policy. Reports say the flashpoint came when the board issued a public statement supporting Rohit Sharma's ODI future without consulting the selection committee.

Agarkar had favoured moving on from the former captain after the Lord's match against England. Tensions also rose between Agarkar and BCCI Centre of Excellence chairman VVS Laxman over selection policy and fixture scheduling. Agarkar did not attend a post-England review meeting in Mumbai called at short notice.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia defended Agarkar's absence, saying the meeting was arranged while the selector was away. The move comes ahead of India's three-match ODI series against West Indies starting on September 27.
