Harmanpreet Kaur steps down as India captain across all formats

Harmanpreet Kaur resigned after leading India in 211 matches and winning the ODI World Cup.

Harmanpreet Kaur announced on Tuesday that she has stepped down as captain of the Indian women's team across all formats. The 37-year-old made the decision after a BCCI review meeting in Guwahati attended by secretary Devajit Saikia, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and head coach Amol Muzumdar.

She led India in 211 matches, winning 30 of 51 ODIs and 92 of 155 T20Is. Under her leadership India secured their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2025, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals. Harmanpreet said she leaves the role with peace because the team is in a good place and confirmed she will continue to play for India.

The BCCI has not named her successor. Mandhana is considered the leading candidate for the position.
