Josh Inglis set to rejoin Australia Test squad in Gqeberha

Inglis returns to the Australia squad after a fractured finger scan ruled out surgery, though his availability for the Gqeberha Test depends on how the injury holds up before the match.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis will link up with Australia's Test squad ahead of the second match against South Africa in Gqeberha, scheduled for October 18-22. Inglis fractured a finger during the first ODI in Durban in late September and returned home for assessment.

A recent scan cleared him of the need for surgery and his availability for selection will depend on how the finger holds up in the days before the match. All five of his previous Test appearances have come as a specialist batter rather than behind the stumps. Australia added Sam Harper and Nic Maddinson to the touring party to cover for his absence.

Head coach Andrew McDonald said replacing Inglis required two players to fill the batting and wicketkeeping roles. Cameron Green remains doubtful for the second Test after sustaining an abdominal injury during the final ODI in Potchefstroom.
