MS Dhoni says fitness decision due before December

MS Dhoni said he will decide whether to play the 2027 IPL season before December after undergoing medical tests. The 44-year-old missed the entire 2026 campaign with a calf injury and has not appeared in competitive cricket since 2023.

Speaking at a healthcare event in Bengaluru, Dhoni compared himself to an old vintage vehicle that requires a clean bill of health before returning to the road. He said doctors will determine if he is strong enough for another season with Chennai Super Kings.

CSK chief executive Kasi Viswanathan said the final call rests with Dhoni but expressed optimism that the former captain could continue. The franchise has undergone significant changes with Stephen Fleming stepping down as head coach and Zaheer Khan taking over ahead of the 2027 season.
