Saransh Jain receives India Test cap at 33 as Kuldeep Yadav ruled out with viral illness

Saransh Jain, an off-spinning all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh, received his Test cap from Ravindra Jadeja fifteen minutes before the toss at the SSC ground in Colombo. At 33, he replaced Kuldeep Yadav, who was ruled out with a genuine viral illness. Jadeja told Jain to treat the game like any other first-class match and not add pressure. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed the illness was real and shut down talk of selection motives. Jain thanked his family and coaches after the handover.

The story so far
  1. India dropped Kuldeep Yadav for the Colombo Test and handed Saransh Jain his debut cap. The change follows workload concerns and the need for 20 wickets in Tests.

  2. Kuldeep Yadav was rested after bowling nearly 20 overs in the warm-up. India are monitoring his fitness ahead of the Galle Test.
