Bas de Leede takes over as Netherlands captain from Scott Edwards
Bas de Leede succeeds Scott Edwards as Netherlands captain after the wicketkeeper-batter led the side for four years in 56 ODIs.
Bas de Leede has been named captain of the Netherlands men's team after Scott Edwards stepped down. Edwards led the side for four years through 56 ODIs and 50 T20Is, then announced his decision following the Utrecht leg of the CWC League 2.
De Leede credited Edwards with clear leadership and said the former captain will stay available as a player. Edwards won 24 of those 56 ODIs, including the wins over South Africa and Bangladesh at the 2023 World Cup.
The Netherlands sit second in the CWC League 2 behind the United States. The top four sides at the end of the tournament qualify for the World Cup qualifiers. De Leede takes charge for the remaining matches against Oman and the UAE later this year.
