Mumbai to finalise white-ball squad on 9 November

Mumbai will name their white-ball squad on 9 November, with Suryakumar Yadav's exclusion from the Ranji Trophy side attributed to limited recent red-ball exposure.

Mumbai will select their white-ball squad on 9 November before departing for Kolkata on 11 November. Suryakumar Yadav was omitted from the Ranji Trophy squad this season because selectors cited his lack of recent red-ball cricket. The 36-year-old captained India to the 2026 T20 World Cup and 2025 Asia Cup titles.

Yadav was born on 14 September 1990 and has focused primarily on limited-overs cricket in recent years. His exclusion from the four-day side reflects a deliberate workload management approach by the state selectors. Mumbai have not confirmed whether Yadav will be available for any white-ball matches before the national calendar resumes.

The decision leaves open the possibility that Yadav could return to red-ball cricket later in the season if required by India or if his white-ball commitments allow.

CricHubb Take

The state selectors' stance suggests that even established white-ball leaders must maintain red-ball involvement if they want to keep domestic opportunities open.
