Tilak Varma was dismissed in an unusual manner during the third T20I against West Indies in Indore on Sunday. He and partner Axar Patel stopped running after wrongly assuming a powerful flick had crossed the boundary rope for four.

The incident occurred in the 17th over against Gudakesh Motie. Axar Patel flicked a low full-toss toward deep backward square leg. Both batters completed a single and began walking back for a chat, believing the ball had gone for four. Kamil Pooran dived to keep the ball inside the boundary and threw it back to the pitch.

Shai Hope collected the ball at the striker's end and attempted a run-out. Axar just made it back into his crease in time. Hope then relayed the ball to Motie at the bowler's end. By the time Motie broke the stumps, Tilak was several metres short and walking casually back. The third umpire confirmed the dismissal. Tilak departed for 28.

CricHubb Take

The run-out shows how a momentary lapse in concentration can undo a well-set batter. Tilak had looked set on 28 off 16 balls before the mix-up cost India a middle-order wicket at a crucial stage.
