India T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma said the side must work on its bowling ahead of the New Zealand series. He spoke after the fifth match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium ended in no result, leaving the five-match series drawn 2-2.

Varma named batting depth and the contributions of younger players as the series positives. Nitish Reddy scored 41 off 20 in Hyderabad, while Naman Dhir took key wickets and hit an unbeaten 24 off six in Bengaluru. Varma said Dhir could bat in either the middle or lower order and required only one or two days of practice to adjust to any role.

He added that Ishan Kishan is batting well at number three, which has pushed him lower in the order. Varma said he is confident of batting at three or five and will work on both approaches before the New Zealand tour.

Varma's comments frame the 2-2 result as a diagnostic stop rather than a setback, signalling that selection for New Zealand will be driven by who can fix the bowling gaps rather than by form alone.
