Pat Cummins admits Australia must address selection questions after innings defeat
Pat Cummins says Australia must address selection questions after their innings-and-31-run defeat left the series level at 1-1.
Australia captain Pat Cummins said his team must be significantly better after an innings-and-31-run defeat to South Africa at Gqeberha. The visitors collapsed for 99 in the first innings and were bowled out for 295 in the second, so the series sits level at 1-1 with Cape Town next.
Cummins admitted the heavy loss forces players to confront their own form. At least three spots are under scrutiny: Marnus Labuschagne has gone three years without a Test hundred, and opener Nic Maddinson has managed 0, 48, 0 and 8 across the series.
Hard decisions now sit with the selectors. Cameron Green is expected to return from injury and Josh Inglis is available, but the Cape Town pitch will decide whether Australia keep four seamers or bring back Nathan Lyon.
