Tripurana Vijay picked up three wickets against Chhattisgarh in the Ranji Trophy on Tuesday. The 25-year-old off-spinner helped Andhra push for a first-innings lead after the side posted 231 at DVR Ground. He used drift and turn to trouble the batters in windy conditions.

Vijay has taken 65 wickets in 19 First-Class matches. He made his IPL debut earlier this year against Rajasthan Royals. He grew up in Tekkali, Srikakulam district, and only faced turf wickets after joining an academy in Vizianagaram.

He said playing in the IPL is a dream for every player. Delhi Capitals signed him for his base price of INR 30 lakh at the 2026 auction.

Vijay's path from Vizianagaram's turf wickets to the IPL suggests the auction still finds room for domestic spinners who bowl conventional lines, even when mystery and all-round options dominate the market.
