Tushar Deshpande claimed a hat-trick and finished with five for 17 to bowl Chandigarh out for 78 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy match at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai had declared at 429 after resuming at 249 for five. The visitors followed on and lost their first wicket before stumps.

Deshpande dismissed Arjun Azad, Shivam Bhambri and Dipender Kush in consecutive deliveries after tea. Mohit Avasthi took three for nine as Chandigarh were dismissed in 115 balls. It was Mumbai's sixth hat-trick in first-class cricket.

Deshpande said the performance came in his 50th first-class match. Chandigarh now trail by 351 runs with nine wickets remaining.

CricHubb Take

The speed at which Deshpande finished the innings suggests that domestic sides with long batting line-ups can still be vulnerable when a bowler finds early rhythm with the second new ball.
