Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi claimed two wickets in three overs for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal against North East Zone. The left-arm spinner finished with figures of 2 for 11 as East Zone won by an innings and 210 runs. Captain Ishan Kishan handed him the ball despite describing the decision as a calculated risk.

Sooryavanshi said Kishan did not know he was a wicket-taker. He had scored only eight runs on Duleep Trophy debut earlier in the tournament. Sooryavanshi remains ineligible for India's Under-19 squad due to age criteria despite strong performances at senior domestic level.

The teenager's bowling cameo added another dimension to his game after he impressed selectors with his batting throughout the tournament.

Sooryavanshi's age makes him ineligible for U19 selection, which means his development path runs through senior domestic cricket rather than age-group structures.
