Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, took over as East Zone captain in the Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone in Bengaluru after Ishan Kishan suffered a thumb injury. Sooryavanshi was named vice-captain before stepping up for the match.
The teenager displayed leadership qualities by making a DRS call during his stint in charge. East Zone selectors have identified him as a potential future India captain.
Sooryavanshi had earlier become the youngest player to score a fifty in Duleep Trophy history during the same match.
