Harbhajan Singh urges Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to follow Kohli discipline

Harbhajan Singh told the 15-year-old to channel his energy solely into cricket like Kohli and Tendulkar did.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has advised Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to match the dedication shown by Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble during their teenage years. Sooryavanshi remains on the bench for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand despite strong performances in the IPL and the Zimbabwe series. Harbhajan said the 15-year-old must maintain focus and consistency to fulfil his potential.

New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy confirmed the hosts have already conducted scouting sessions on the teenager ahead of the five-match series that begins on Thursday. Duffy said Sooryavanshi strikes the ball at a consistent rate above 250 and that conditions in New Zealand will present a different challenge from subcontinent pitches.

India captain Shreyas Iyer reiterated that Sooryavanshi will have to wait for his opportunity and backed him to use the tour to learn about overseas conditions. The teenager has not featured in any of the five T20Is against West Indies and was also on the bench during the Afghanistan series.

The gap between Sooryavanshi's IPL numbers and his international opportunities suggests India is protecting its openers rather than fast-tracking the teenager, a policy that may shift only after consistent overseas failure.
