Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 15, took over as East Zone captain in the Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone after regular skipper Ishan Kishan suffered a finger injury. Sooryavanshi had been named vice-captain for the tournament.
The 15-year-old became the youngest player to lead a side in Duleep Trophy history when he stepped in during the semi-final at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He had already scored 92 in the first innings before taking on the captaincy duties.
Sooryavanshi's appointment marks a domestic cricket milestone as selectors monitor his development across formats. East Zone matched Central Zone's first-innings total of 266 on day two.
