Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal criticised Saim Ayub for making a baby-cradle gesture after dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the Asian Games final on October 3. Akmal said the 15-year-old was playing international cricket and Ayub should concentrate on his own performance.

Sooryavanshi scored 15 off nine balls before falling in the third over of India’s innings. India posted 211 for six and beat Pakistan by 19 runs to retain the gold medal.

Akmal said players should avoid actions that appear designed for social media attention during international matches.

Ayub’s gesture might have looked harmless in a domestic match, but Akmal’s rebuke shows Pakistan’s senior players are already policing how the next generation behaves under the spotlight of international fixtures.
