Morkel says India will rotate squad for West Indies T20Is
Morne Morkel confirmed India will rotate players for the West Indies T20Is based on fitness after the Asian Games campaign.
India bowling coach Morne Morkel said the team will assess player fitness after the Asian Games before finalising the playing XI for the first T20I against West Indies on October 6. He confirmed that selections will depend on how players are feeling after jet lag and travel from Japan.
Morkel emphasised that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's development benefits from being in the team environment even without regular game time. He said the 15-year-old can learn by observing senior players' processes and asking questions in the dressing room.
Sooryavanshi became India's youngest-ever Asian Games gold medallist at 15 years and 6 months after playing in both the semi-final and final. India won gold by defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in the final at Korakuen Stadium.
CricHubb Take
India's approach treats Sooryavanshi's presence as long-term investment rather than short-term selection pressure. The policy suggests the team plans multiple exposure cycles before committing to regular playing time.
