Venkatesh Iyer says KKR fans troll him after Gill centuries
Iyer reveals ongoing social media criticism from KKR fans linked to past retention decisions.
Venkatesh Iyer said Kolkata Knight Riders fans troll him on social media whenever Shubman Gill scores a century. Iyer played for KKR from 2021 to 2025 before being released ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. He was bought by KKR for 23.75 crore at the 2025 IPL auction and later joined RCB for 7 crore after a pay-cut of about 71 percent. In IPL 2026, Iyer played seven matches and scored 209 runs including one fifty at an average of 52.25. He said the online criticism began after he was retained by KKR and Gill was released before the 2022 mega auction. Iyer noted that he has faced social-media hate since the 2022 decision and continues to receive it. He also said he saw RCB fans worshipping the team jersey before matches. Iyer is likely to be retained by RCB ahead of the next IPL season.
