Amit Mishra says Virat Kohli stopped responding after injury assurance

Mishra accused Kohli of failing to keep a promise made after the 2017 injury in Bengaluru.

Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has accused Virat Kohli of ignoring his calls and messages after the bowler recovered from a leg injury sustained during the 2017 T20I against England in Bengaluru. Mishra said both then-head coach Anil Kumble and Kohli had assured him of a return to the national team once he regained full fitness.

Mishra made the claims during an episode of the podcast Baith & Bol hosted by Aakash Chopra. He said Kohli told him an update would arrive within seven to 10 days, but no response followed repeated attempts to contact the captain. Mishra noted that other players returned after longer injury absences and said he never received an explanation for why the earlier assurances were not honoured.

Mishra played his final international match in the T20I against England in February 2017. He finished his career with 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India.

Mishra's account suggests Kohli's early captaincy period may have featured informal communication patterns that left some players without formal closure on selection decisions.
