Wasim Jaffer says Tilak Varma can replace Virat Kohli at No. 3 after 2027 World Cup
Wasim Jaffer identifies Tilak Varma as ideal replacement for Virat Kohli at number three.
Wasim Jaffer believes Tilak Varma has the skills to bat at number three in ODIs once Virat Kohli retires after the 2027 World Cup. Jaffer pointed to Varma's first-class average of around 55 and his ability to adapt across batting positions in T20Is. Kohli has stated that the 2027 tournament will be his final ODI World Cup.
Jaffer noted that India may field a left-handed batter at number three after Kohli and Rohit Sharma exit the side. He also suggested Yashasvi Jaiswal is the likely candidate to replace Rohit at the top of the order. Varma has played four ODIs, batting twice at number three.
Jaffer added that Varma's versatility gives him an advantage over other contenders for the role.

Jaffer's public backing frames Varma as a long-term option rather than a short-term fix for the number three position.
