Wasim Jaffer said Tilak Varma could replace Virat Kohli at number three in India's ODI batting order. Jaffer noted that Tilak has already scored a century at No. 3 and has adapted to middle-order positions. He said Tilak's left-handed batting and first-class average of around 55 make him suitable for all three formats. Kohli has confirmed that the 2027 World Cup will be his last ODI tournament. Jaffer also observed that Abhishek Sharma has matured in his approach, taking more time at the crease rather than attacking from the first ball. Tilak scored an unbeaten 51 off 22 balls in the Asian Games final against Pakistan.

CricHubb Take

Jaffer's endorsement reframes Tilak not as a middle-order floater but as a potential anchor, which changes how India might construct its top six after 2027.
