Why has Yashasvi Jaiswal been left out of India's ODI squad for New Zealand?

Jaiswal has not played an ODI since June and now trains as a wicketkeeper to improve his selection chances.

The BCCI omitted Yashasvi Jaiswal from the ODI squad for the New Zealand tour despite his Test form and six previous ODI appearances where he averaged 71.25. Murali Kartik said Jaiswal remains in the mix as a reserve opener and his opportunity should arrive soon. Aakash Chopra said selectors appear to favour Ishan Kishan as a backup opener and wicketkeeper, reducing the need for an extra batter like Jaiswal.

Jaiswal's continued absence signals that India is protecting a T20-only pathway for him rather than pushing him into the ODI setup before the 2027 World Cup.
