Fraser Sheat struck in the first over, trapping Yashasvi Jaiswal lbw, then claimed three of the four wickets that fell inside the opening hour. Sai Sudharsan and Yash Rathod both chased balls outside off and paid the price, while Smaran Ravichandran collected a golden duck.

Devdutt Padikkal made 80 before he too departed. Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar then settled in, adding 23 from 87 balls as the innings steadied.

Jaiswal has now gone 17, 5 and 0 in his last three knocks on the tour.

CricHubb Take

Sheat's early swing has handed New Zealand A the sort of foothold that can turn an unofficial series into a genuine test of India's depth before the seniors arrive.
