Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has criticised the ICC and BCCI for handing light penalties to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after separate on-field incidents. Jaiswal was docked 25 per cent of his match fee and one demerit point for head-to-head contact with Asitha Fernando during the second Test in Colombo.

Sooryavanshi had earlier traded words with Sri Lanka A players during the June tri-series. Manjrekar argued that without stronger punishment, both players risk carrying the same habits into their senior careers. He said the sanctions were insufficient to deter future incidents.

Manjrekar called on the ICC and BCCI to take stricter action against disciplinary violations by young players. He warned that leniency could harm both the sport and the players' long-term development.

Manjrekar's intervention reframes the debate from individual temperament to institutional responsibility for setting behavioural standards early.
