Albie Morkel joins CSK coaching staff under Zaheer Khan

Chennai Super Kings appointed Albie Morkel as assistant coach ahead of IPL 2027, joining head coach Zaheer Khan and fellow assistants Gareth Batty and Mohit Sharma. Morkel played 78 matches for the franchise between 2008 and 2013, scoring 827 runs and taking 76 wickets during two title-winning campaigns.

Mohit Sharma, who represented CSK across four seasons and claimed 58 wickets in 48 matches, takes charge of the bowling department. Gareth Batty ended a 21-year association with Surrey, where he guided the county to three consecutive County Championship titles, to join as assistant coach.

The changes follow the departure of Stephen Fleming, Michael Hussey and Eric Simons after CSK missed the playoffs in 2025 and 2026. The new coaching group will oversee squad retention decisions ahead of the November 15 deadline.
