Fleming appointed England Test coach with Root as captain
Fleming replaces McCullum as England Test coach while Root returns as captain for second spell ahead of South Africa series.
Stephen Fleming has been confirmed as England men's Test head coach, with Joe Root returning as captain. The New Zealander replaces Brendon McCullum and will start before the South Africa tour. Marcus Trescothick steps in as interim for the Pakistan Tests next month.
Fleming guided Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles across 13 years. He has never held a national head-coach role before. Root, 35, takes the job again after Ben Stokes stepped away.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan thinks the captaincy arrives at the right moment for Root. Root called the appointment a huge motivator and said Fleming's tactical eye impressed him.
