Gautam Gambhir says Vaibhav Sooryavanshi must wait for India opportunity
Gambhir said performers for years will remain ahead of newcomers, after Sooryavanshi was benched for the entire Afghanistan T20 series.
Gautam Gambhir has made it clear that 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi isn’t walking straight into the India side. The coach pointed to Sanju Samson, who scored two fifties during the 3-0 T20I sweep of Afghanistan, and said consistent performers stay ahead of newcomers.
Sooryavanshi stayed on the sidelines for the entire series. Gambhir stressed that age alone doesn’t earn caps; every player must wait their turn and then hold onto it. The teenager’s only red-ball numbers so far are 192 runs at 38.40 with a strike rate of 104.92.
