Gautam Gambhir tells Vaibhav Sooryavanshi he must wait for opportunity
Gambhir backs continuity over form; Sooryavanshi left out despite recent runs.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir told Vaibhav Sooryavanshi he will have to wait for his chance because Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have created a successful opening combination. Gambhir said selection is not decided by social media pressure but by what the dressing room believes can win matches.
The 15-year-old has been left out of the playing XI for the first T20I against West Indies despite good form. Gambhir noted that dropping established players after three or four failures would ignore the impact they have delivered over the past two years.
Samson and Abhishek have scored 794 runs from 33 innings at an average of 29.5 since the 2026 T20 World Cup triumph.
