Leicestershire reach 334 to stay in Division One race

Leicestershire chase 334 with Kelly and Cox's 158-run stand, four days after losing 27 points for a poor pitch.

Leicestershire needed 334 against Hampshire and got there. Nick Kelly made 86, Ben Cox stayed unbeaten on 75, and their 158-run stand for the fifth wicket took the hosts to the target in 91 overs. Hampshire had already been bowled out for 274, so Leicestershire carried a 30-run first-innings lead into the chase.

Four days earlier they were docked 27 points for a sub-standard pitch in the win over Glamorgan. That left them bottom of the table with one game left — against leaders Warwickshire at Edgbaston — and still needing to pass Essex, who sit 19 points above them.

Hampshire are already down. They finish against fifth-placed Sussex and will drop out of Division One after eleven seasons. Kyle Abbott took ten wickets for them across the match.
