Rohit Sharma put team before self as captain, says former selector

Former senior selector S Sharath has credited Rohit Sharma's leadership to his willingness to put the team's interest above individual concerns. Sharath said the former captain treated every player equally and ensured that non-playing members received the same attention as regulars.

Sharath told The Indian Express that Rohit's approach created an environment where players wanted to perform for the team. He noted that Rohit made extra efforts with young players during the 2024 home Test series against England, taking them out and discussing the game to build their confidence.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav have also praised Rohit's leadership style. Bumrah highlighted how the captain made newcomers feel comfortable, while Kuldeep said Rohit showed trust in bowlers even during difficult periods.
