Sanjay Manjrekar says Samson does not help his own cause

Samson scores 10 as questions grow over selection ahead of Sooryavanshi.

Sanjay Manjrekar said Sanju Samson does not help his own cause amid tough competition from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for an India T20I opening spot. Samson lasted eight balls and scored 10 runs in the first T20I against Afghanistan on Sunday.

India chose experience and selected Samson and Abhishek Sharma as openers, leaving Sooryavanshi out despite his recent form. Captain Shreyas Iyer called the decision a tight call between the three openers.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif criticised the move to bring Samson back at Sooryavanshi's expense. Aakash Chopra supported Samson's selection but warned that pressure will intensify as long as Sooryavanshi remains benched.
