Santner's BBL refusal prioritises Test cricket over T20 franchise money

Santner rejects BBL contract to remain available for New Zealand's Test series against India and Australia.

Mitchell Santner has declined a Big Bash League offer from the Adelaide Strikers to prioritise New Zealand's upcoming Test assignments against India and Australia. The all-rounder is eager to play more Test cricket and wants to continue leading the white-ball sides.

Santner was approached by the Strikers but decided that New Zealand's international schedule should take priority. New Zealand are set to host India in a full series, including two Tests, from October 22 to December 1 before travelling to Australia for a four-Test series.

The decision reflects a deliberate career choice at a time when franchise T20 money is reshaping priorities for white-ball specialists across associate and full-member nations.
