Sehwag compares Sooryavanshi's aggression to his own early career
Sehwag likened Sooryavanshi's aggressive mindset to his own, citing statistical comparisons that placed his strike rate well above contemporaries from 2001-2012.
Virender Sehwag said 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shares his approach of attacking from the first ball. He spoke at a PHD Chamber of Commerce event, drawing the comparison to his own mindset during the 2008 Chennai Test when he scored 309 in a day against South Africa.
Statistical analysis placed Sehwag's 2001-2012 Test strike rate of 82.39 at 42.2 percent above the mean of nine contemporaries. In ODIs from the same period, only Shahid Afridi scored faster, though Sehwag accumulated 8,222 runs to Afridi's 4,402. Sooryavanshi has played eight T20Is for India, scoring 246 runs at a strike rate of 186.36.
Selectors have yet to name the ODI squad for the New Zealand tour starting November 4. BCCI awaits fitness updates on Harshit Rana, Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna before finalising the 15-member group.
