Virender Sehwag says Sooryavanshi's approach mirrors his own

Sehwag draws parallels between his explosive style and Sooryavanshi's fearless approach, saying age should not be a barrier at the highest level.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag said Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's aggressive batting approach is similar to how he himself played for the country. Sehwag made the comments during a discussion at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry's annual session on Saturday. He noted that the 15-year-old thinks about hitting from the first ball and that age should not matter once a player reaches the IPL or international level.

Sooryavanshi has scored 246 runs in eight T20Is at a strike rate of 186.16 but has not yet featured in the ongoing series against West Indies. The teenager remains on the bench behind Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, who are set to open in the third T20I at Indore. India bowling coach Morne Morkel has said the teenager benefits from being in the squad even when not playing.

Sehwag said performance matters more than age, pointing out that Kohli at 38 and Sooryavanshi at 15 can both play if they deliver. The former opener added that a 38 or 40-year-old can play alongside a 15-year-old if both perform at the highest level.
