Shubman Gill wins record fifth ICC Player of the Month award for September

Shubman Gill claimed his fifth ICC Player of the Month award for September on Tuesday, breaking the record previously held by Babar Azam. The Indian captain scored 333 runs against the West Indies including an unbeaten 223 that completed India's record chase of 406 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Gill finished ahead of Abhishek Sharma, who scored 229 runs in three T20Is against Afghanistan including a 30-ball century, and Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza, who made 183 ODI runs and 90 T20I runs against Australia. Gill had previously won the award in January and September 2023 and in February and July 2025.

Shafali Verma won the women's award for the second time after leading India to Asian Games and Asia Cup titles. Indian players have now swept both monthly awards on three occasions.
